Breeding
Shamrock is a full service breeding farm. Thoroughbreds encompass the majority of our breeding and we currently stand four stallions: Barbados, Coltimus Prime, Outflanker and Rainbow Heir. The breeding shed is open from February 14th – July 3rd, with two sessions daily, at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Our vet is equine reproductive specialist, Dr. Pete Sheerin who is here throughout the week on a regular basis
Foaling
Foal watch usually begins in Mid January, and we hope to be done by the end of May. We utilize the Breeder Alert System as well as night watch personnel. We keep a store of frozen colostrum and oral Seramune to use when supplementation is warranted to ensure the foals get off to a good start.
Boarding
We offer seasonal and year round boarding for mares and their offspring. Rates are reduced for resident mares. Barren and maiden mares are started under lights in December to get them ready for the breeding season. Routine vet work, ie, dewormings and blacksmith as well as reproductive checks are scheduled when needed and are added to your monthly statement.
Lay-ups
We take in a limited number of lay-ups as space is available. The exerciser with the sand footing has been invaluable for legging up. By strengthening limbs and developing fitness lay-ups return to the track stronger and sounder, reducing time needed to get fit for racing.
Sales Prep
We take in yearlings for sales prep for the various sales nationwide. The exerciser is used for conditioning as each individual warrants. We will also consign yearlings at the sale if we are planning on having a consignment at that sale.
